I Found My Dream Monitor
One of the few companies that seems to take customer satisfaction seriously, and at their prices, one of the last I’d expect it from.
I found my “dream” monitor a 21″ flat screen crt (best for graphics work) online for $49 (after rebates) at Tiger Direct and added it to my Christmas list for my boyfriend (along with some RAM, a wireless mouse and surround speakers, no jewelry for this woman). The monitor was advertised as a 21″ refurbished (he didn’t like the idea of “used” but I insisted that anything went through rigorous testing) listing for $89, and was only $49 afer rebate. Now, these monitors usually sell for at least $200 or more. In subfreezing weather, my boyfriend showed up on Christmas with a HUGE box, semi-gift wrapped–the box was about 3′ square, I have no idea how he got it in his Camry. I was thrilled! This thing was massive, close to 100 lbs. We took it upstairs, along with my new speaker system (I’d already purchased a wireless mouse) and anxiously hooked it up.
Taking it out of the box, the only physical mark that it was “used” was the indentation of a few stickers across the top–particularly like the parrot of a well known monitor manufacturer…… To our dismay, a huge green blob covered one corner of the screen. We waited, hoping that it just needed to “warm up” then a red blob appeared in the other corner. I felt so bad, I sincerely wanted to just “live with it” because I had insisted on this monitor from Tiger Direct, but my boyfriend insisted that we should exchange it. So, we did.
The whole process was very easy. We were never charged for shipping, which would’ve easily cost $50 for something so huge. And, although there was about a month long delay in getting the replacement, there was no hassle. We explained what was wrong, we were issued a return authorization number, and that was it. No need to argue our point (VERY unusual nowadays), it was just, “We’re sorry that happened. We’ll make extra sure it doesn’t happen again.” And, about a month later, my new monitor arrived, looking even MORE “new” than the former and with a near perfect picture (there is a little problem with being able to adjust the contrast/brightness, but the colors and images are crisp and clean, and for $50, you’ll never find a better deal).
I work for a large corporation that can purchase anything, but I’ve already turned them towards Tiger Direct for purchasing because it will save them money and give the service no one else wants to give.
